“Don't cry, you're an adult”, “Don't cry, you're strong”, “Don't cry, it's nothing”, “Don't cry, you're a boy, “Don't cry, you look very ugly when you cry”, “Don't cry, everything is okay”, “Don't cry, we all will be there...”. Such phrases often are far from giving support, rather the opposite — as experienced in our emotions and our bodily reactions to such inept words.

This work is about the importance of feeling and experiencing tough emotions, the subtleties of empathy, and the possibility or impossibility of being in someone else's shoes.
